Tutorials

I am an Australian watercolour artist specialising in botanical art and on this channel I present short tutorials on some of the basic and not-so-basic techniques used in creating beautiful botanical art. Please feel free to subscribe via my Youtube channel to receive updates on new tutorials.

Tutorial 1: 'BASIC TEA-WASH'

Welcome - This is a brief look at a watercolour technique called a Tea Wash. Here I am preparing to paint three Australian Eucalypt leaves. This technique marks the beginning of most watercolour botanical art pieces.

Tutorial 2: 'GUMLEAF IN DETAIL'

Here is the second part of my tutorial on Australian gumleaves. Here I show you how to get the detail into your painting. The leaves are from an Australia Eucalypt called Eucalyptus caesia (Silver Princess).

Tutorial 3: 'PAINTING A FLOWERING GUM'

Not really a tutorial - more an overview of some of the processes involved in painting an Australian Eucalypt in watercolour. This one is the same subject as above - Eucalyptus caesia (Silver Princess).

Video 4: 'This is one reason why I paint...Why do you paint?'

Getting lost in the detail is one of the main reasons why I paint. This is for all artists and creative people out there...Why do you paint?

Tutorial 5: 'DRY BRUSHING'

Welcome to this tutorial - here I am demonstrating my technique for dry brushing on an Australian Eucalypt - Silver Princess. I show you the way I capture the white chalky appearance of the bark. I hope you enjoy this and thanks for watching.

Video 6: 'Finding the peace in watercolour painting'

One of the benefits of painting is the peace it provides. Do you feel at peace when you paint?
